This week December 3rd through the 7th, HRC is hoping to raise awareness and help for mental health by launching their annual campaign: Be Kind to your Mind. The goal of the campaign is to encourage students to embrace who they are and not look down on others who struggle with mental illness. Senior, board member, Kara Pauley hopes that, “With the Be Kind to Your Mind campaign, HRC can make CdM a place where you can feel comfortable sharing your attitude towards your mental health. We all struggle or know someone who struggles with mental illness and the pervasiveness of the issue needs to be addressed. The goal of Be Kind to Your Mind is to provide students with resources and to challenge the stigma surrounding mental illness.”

HRC has also launched an anonymous, voluntary survey for students to fill out in order for HRC to gain more knowledge on the issue in regards to students on campus. The survey focus on previous experiences and battles with mental illness, and also if students have received help for their struggles. Seeking help is a major part of the campaign. As a result of the stigma around mental illness, many students find themselves unable to obtain the help they need. HRC encourages students to talk to their guidance counselors on campus or visit the One room to receive the help and leadership they need. Be Kind to Your Mind week is a tremendous opportunity for students to emerge from their shell and embrace who they are as a person on campus.
