On Saturday, October 20th CdM’s running teams ranging from frosh-soph to varsity raced in the meet. The results were great, and many of the runners had achieved a personal record for their final times.

The boys placed 2nd out of everyone, and the girls placed 13th. This is a great accomplishment.  The terrain for this run was different from all other runs, due to the fact that it had no hills, but there were other confounding variables that make the run difficult, such as a lot of dust on the trail, and high temperatures while running. There were very many schools that competed at this meet and they all did well.

The bus going to this event left CdM at 7:00am, and arrived around 8:00am. The schedule started off with Varsity boys at 9:45am, and then switched to the frosh-soph league, and finished off with JV girls at 11:15am.

The course was quite repetitive in some areas, which is not too common of a factor of cross country races. The CdM tent was set up near the route and the runners could be seen from the tent. However, the coaches always follow the trail so they can cheer on the runners and encourage them to give it their all while racing.

There is a clock at the finish line that tells everyone their final time, and every athlete has a tracker that they have to attach to the shoe of their dominant foot. This tracker makes sure that the runner properly stays on the course throughout the whole race. Once that foot crosses the finish line, their time is recorded to the computer and the results are quickly given. There is also a link online that immediately posts the scores and placings of schools.
