This year’s CdM girls volleyball team is seeming to have the same potential as the 2015-2016 squad with a possible CIF run or as the 1992-1993 team with the ability to clench the national championship.
For the past three years, the boys volleyball team at CdM has gotten to the CIF finals and the girls are looking to have that same success.
This past weekend the team beat Marymount, ranked fourth in CIF, in four sets 29-27, 25-23, 25-22, 27-25. The team was lead by USC commit, setter, Ashley Humphreys with 59 assists. Yet none of those assists could have been possible without senior, Raleigh Garner’s 17 digs, sophomore, Maya Satchell’s 11 digs, along with 8 digs and 4 aces by senior Rice commit, Tia Grippo. At the net, the Seakings had 19 kills by senior, Christina Davenport who also had a phenomenal .559 hitting percentage, junior Kendall Kipp with 21 kills, and sophomore, Maya Satchell had 14 kills.
The Seakings were facing a strong Marymount team with a 6’5” setter committed to UCSD, Grace F. along with a UCLA beach volleyball commit Deven Newberry.
Despite strong forces on the Marymount side, the Seakings battled to the end and came home with a win.
Along with outstanding preseason match against Marymount, the Seakings are so far 3-0 in League. They have already beat the toughest opponent in league, Beckman, three sets to one. Along with that victory came more wins against other league opponents, University High School and Northwood High School.
The team is very excited about this year’s team and their abilities. Junior Kendall Kipp commented on the season so far, “As a team we have really bonded and become close friends. This camaraderie, along with our hard work and skill, has played a huge role in our success so far.”
The team’s next match is against league opponent Irvine High. Come out and support the girls!
