After three long-awaited years the boys volleyball team has finally won the Division 1 CIF title. On Saturday, May 20, the CdM boys volleyball team swept their long-time rival Loyola for the championship. They won their game three sets to none, 25-22, 32-30, and 26-24.

The seakings came out strong in the beginning of the first set, showing Loyola that they were not going down without a fight. The teams were tied for most of the set, going back and forth between who had the lead. Junior Patrick Paragas got on a serving streak, unsettling Loyola and making it hard for them to catch back up. He served around six or seven serves before Loyola was able to gain a point and get the ball back. They fought to catch up as we fought to finish the first set. As they got closer to us, we got closer to the ending the set once and for all. The set ended with a kill from senior Jake Meyer, and CdM set out on the path to victory.

The second set went back and forth the whole set, but the Seakings always held the lead thanks to kills from junior Brandon Browning and digs and aces from junior Diego Perez. The score was tied at 25-25 and Loyola and CdM continued to battle back and forth. The lead swayed from team to team, neither one able to get two points in a row to end the set. But the Seakings remained focused and produced many amazing points such as kills from Mitch Haly and Jake Meyer and blocks from Kevin Kobrine to finish the set.

At the beginning of the third set, the Seakings fell behind at 2-7. Over the following points, the Seakings came back to tie it up 18-18 thanks to kills from junior Kevin Kobrine, senior Mitch Haly, and Meyer. After tying it up, the Seakings and Loyola went back and forth earning points. With the score at 23-24, Loyola, the Seakings needed something extra to finish the set and hopefully end the match. That something extra came with a dig from Perez and a kill from Meyer to tie the set 24-24. To gain the lead for the first time in the set, Paragas landed an ace right on the line for the match point. Finally after a long rally full of amazing digs by Paragas and Perez, Kobrine finished the match with a stuff block.

At the end of an exhilarating match with many long rallies, the Seakings came out strong and finished with a bang. They will move on to play Harbor on May 25th. Come out and support!
