Corona del Mar Boys Sweep Laguna Hills

Both the Frosh/Soph team and the Varsity/JV team beat Laguna Hills last Wednesday.
Junior Chase Watson started the Varsity game (played by both Varsity and Junior Varsity because Laguna does not have a JV team) with a strong backhanded goal. He scored two more throughout the game. Senior Max Bergeson scored four times, followed by junior Hayden Leech with three goals. Junior Will Havercroft scored a goal on a penalty.
Senior Isle Anderson played the first half in goal. He blocked 11 shots. Junior Bruce Bearer played for a quarter and a half, blocking four shots. Sophomore (and junior varsity goalkeeper) AJ Santa Maria played for the last three minutes of the game.
Senior Michael Liao, juniors Ari Marks and Evan Ramsey, and sophomore Emory Molnar each scored one goal for a total of 15, beating Laguna Hill’s 11 points.
The Frosh/Soph team won 12 to 3.

Girls Frosh/Soph Tennis Team “Annihilates” Tesoro…Again…

Question of the week: What do you do to get in the Zone?

 

 

“Personally, I don’t need to get in the zone because I’m always in the zone” - Sophomore Sophia Reynolds

 

“I listen to energetic music” – Freshman Olivia Laws

 

“I eat as much food as  I can” – Freshman Megan Hawkins

 

“I imagine myself on the court making perfect shots” – Freshman Meredith Davin

 

“I don’t know…I just have my ways” – Freshman Shayna Palitz

 

“I stay positive and get pumped up with our school cheer” – Freshman Melis Gunay

 

 

The Frosh/Soph team played their second match against Tesoro last Friday, winning 26-5, an even wider margin than before. The girls played with ease as they had already defeated the team, although they still maintained their stamina. “We annihilated”, commented Reynolds.

“My match was pretty amazing; we dominated”, said Sophomore Maddy Markley, who won all of her matches with her partner, Sofia Pardini.

Number 1 singles player Sophia Chen played exceptionally well in the match, defeating all of her opponents with strong, low hits. “She’s really good”, said teammate Elise Sadler.

Overall, the girls displayed a fantastic performance, with much improvement shown.

Girls Freshmen/Sophomore Tennis vs. Tesoro

On Friday, September 11, the Girls Frosh/Soph tennis team won their 2nd match of the season against Tesoro High School. With a final score of 19-5, the team “dominated”, in the words of sophomore Sophia Reynolds. Reynolds and her doubles partner, Elise Sadler, “played exceptionally well”, commented Coach Patterson.

The 1st seeded partners proved to be a good team, and were consistent in their performance winning 3 for 3: 6-1, 6-1, and 6-2. They remain undefeated.

Megan Hawkins and Natalie Rhone,The 2nd seeded doubles partners, easily defeated their opponents with swift, powerful strokes, agressive moves, and positive sportsmanship. “We had fun”, Rhone said. ”I had an awesome hit”, Hawkins added.

In singles, Sophia Chen displayed a smooth performance, shutting out her opponents. Chen was unfailing in her ability to deliver the ball precisely and with a powerful swing.

“I played good but not my best”, Chen reflected.

“We started out weak, but in the end we dom’d”, Maddy Markley commented on her doubles performance.

“I am very happy with the final results; everyone got to play and we came out victorious”, said Coach Patterson.
