Exquisite meals, live famous entertainment, and community involvement. Its all happening at Newport Beach’s main attraction: The Taste of Newport. “It’s a great way to promote the restaurant industry and keep the city alive,” says Richard Luehrs, founder of the Taste of Newport.
Each fall, the city of Newport Beach closes Newport Center Dr. between Santa Rosa and San Miguel for an event which attracts thousands. Restaurants such as Five Crowns, Ruby’s, and Chronic Tacos are all present featuring their popular dishes for the customers.
Mr. Luehrs mentions that he wanted to create a way to promote the restaurant industry as well as create an event to put Newport Beach on the map of success. “By not only having local restaurants at a single event, we wanted to create an environment surrounded by delicious food and live entertainment for Newport Beach residents of all ages. That is how we came up with the Taste,” said Luehrs.
With the bands Sugar Ray, Train, and the renowned American Idol winner David Cook performing at the Taste this year, Luehrs states, “”We’re hoping this year will be one of our most successful yet.”
Get involved! Students are able to volunteer at various food or beverage booths which not only takes care of serive hour requirements, but also “guarentees a good time,” mentions Luehrs.
September 18, 19, and 20 are this year’s dates to attend this exciting attraction. With live performances in an environment with diverse cuisine, you won’t want to miss this famous local event!
