Varsity Golf Bell Battle Ends in Stalemate

Posted on 15 October 2009 by Paul Zubatov

In a surprising turn of events yesterday the Sea Queens, ranked 9th in the Pacific Coast League, tied the 2nd seed Newport Harbor Sailors.  Both teams shot a respectable 222.

The Santa Ana Country Club played host to this back and forth match between the two teams.

Ashley Varner medaled for the Sea Queens with 41 shots on a front 9 – par 36.

Tensions ran high among the varsity squad as they walked out onto the fairways. Newport Harbor seemed to be an insurmountable force, having not lost a match in the Sunset League.  CdM’s Girls Varsity Coach Mike Starkweather could be heard uttering words of encouragement.  Clearly they helped.

This match is without a doubt an example of the determination the Sea Queens have portrayed throughout the season to ascend in the rankings.

The Sea Queen’s record remains at 6-2-0 in league and 8-6-2 overall.
