Whiffle Ball Rosters Are Out

Posted on 02 February 2010 by Dan Steele

Get your teams assembled, whiffle ball season is almost here. Whiffle ball teams consist of six players, one of them having to be a girl. Shirts are given out for each player, and the cost to play is 60 dollars per team. The cost goes towards team t-shirts and helps fundraise for our very own wrestling team. Whiffle ball is an activity hosted by the wrestling coach Gary Almquist at lunches throughout the week with six teams playing a day. Teams play in leagues until they are eliminated or move up to the championship, which takes place in the big gym one week after every other team has been eliminated.

Rules for whiffle ball are simple. It is there just for fun, but competitiveness is recommended. Each team is given a do over rule on offense and defense. This means that they can call back one play while at bat, or in the field. There are no collisions allowed during the game, and if one occurs, the runner is out. To ensure that there is a winning team, the visiting team is awarded a half point before the game starts. And the last rule is that a female must play at all times.

If you are interested in playing this season, be sure to get a roster sheet from Gary Almquist and get it in as soon as possible. Spots go quick seeing that this is one of the most exciting activities to do on campus.
