Integrity Week: Not Just a Weeklong Message

Posted on 26 January 2010 by Hailey Senske

“Integrity Week isn’t just National Honor Society  telling everyone to show integrity for that week; we want integrity to always be present,” said junior NHS member Kaylee O’Connor. The members of NHS want Integrity Week to be symbolic for the continuance of the integrity that was advocated during the week.

NHS made posters, spoke on the announcements, and gave teachers excerpts to read that all related to integrity and its significance for Integrity Week. However, the tornado scare paired with heavy showers and high winds tore the majority of the posters down.

“It was a bummer that most of our posters got washed away in the rain. We worked really hard on those!” said junior NHS member Gaby DiChiro. However, just because the posters were MIA during the week does not mean that no alternative advertising was done.

“The messages on the announcements and the excerpts that our teachers read really helped spread the message,” said senior Caroline Van Dyke. Both forms of advertisement insinuated that the message was not temporary, and that integrity is an important quality in all aspects of life.

On Friday, students wore green to show their support for integrity week.

“I really do think this week will eventually make a difference, and that means that we were successful,” said O’Connor.

However, O’Connor’s predictions were not necessarily accurate. On the final day of Integrity Week, an AP Econ test was stolen while a substitute was present in the classroom. All students are now being required to retake the test.

“Unfortunately for those who planned Integrity Week, the event ultimately culminated in dishonesty and lack of integrity from an unknown senior student in AP Econ,” said senior NHS member Coby Ashendorf.

The event that took place at the end of Integrity Week were ironic in an unfortunate way. Only time will tell if the goal set forth by NHS of continued integrity will take place at CdM.
