Eminem, Why You So Obsessed With Me?

Posted on 11 January 2010 by Michelle Kim

A very popular song young teenagers are listening to currently is “Obsessed” by Mariah Carey. Her music video for that song was placed on the “Top 40 Music Videos of 2009″ on VH1 and has clearly been the favorite of many this past year. But the biggest question placed on the song was “Who is obsessed with you, Mariah?”

In Carey’s music video, she is dressed up as her own stalker, and vaguely looks very similar to her ex-boyfriend and hit rapper Eminem. This caused a lot of combustion because the song states “Why you so obsessed with me? Boy I wanna know” indirectly dissing the so-called “Eminem” and claiming that he is obsessed. She mentions that he is “delusional” for hinting of their past relationship in his song “Bagpipes from Baghdad.” The song starts out with “The real MC please step to the mike” which was a very common way Eminem started out some of his songs, but in place of “MC” (Mariah’s Nickname) he used his nickname “Slim Shady.” A few days after “Obsessed” came out, a new song was released by none other than The Real Slim Shady himself entitled “The Warning.” This new song clearly mentions Mariah Carey and her husband Nick Cannon’s names several times, threatening to expose some of Carey’s and Eminem’s past sexual exploits, such as pictures and video recordings. It was very obvious to show his intimidation by some of the lyrics, such as “I’m obsessed now. Oh gee, is that supposed to be me in the video with the goatee?”

“After watching the ‘Top 40 Music Videos of 2009′ where they explained the dilemma, I noticed that the mystery man looked just like Eminem. That was too obvious a similarity to be a ‘coincidence.’ Mariah Carey was definitely referring to Slim Shady,” said freshman Samantha Rosol.

In Nick Cannon’s defense toward his wife, he quotes “Homeboy is still obsessed with my wife. He has just disrespected one of the world’s most significantly influential artists, one of the most notable black females of our time, the incredibly cherished, globally loved and world-embraced woman of color, Mariah Carey.

“Poor Eminem, this controversy is clearly very embarrassing for him but he is acting as if it doesn’t hurt him to be called ‘obsessive and delusional’ but in reality, it probably does. No one wants to be dissed in public, but he shouldn’t have stooped down to her level and dissed her back,” said sophomore Brandi McLellan.

When Mariah was questioned about her music video after all the drama spilled out, she said, “Everybody started having their own speculations about who the stalker in the video was. When I look at that stalker and me with the beard, I look like my brother and my cousin Chris. So basically, you know, all the speculation about who I’m playing in the video, it’s not accurate.” In that quote, she didn’t actually say ‘the man in the video was not Eminem’ so the questioning is still going on.

“Eminem’s The Warning was a bit of an overreaction and an extremely hurtful song in my opinion. Mariah Carey didn’t even mention his name in the song and plenty of guys wear pimped-out clothing similar to his, so he has no right to just jump to conclusions and assume that everything in the world is revolved around him,” said freshman Maddy Gaylord.

Overall, Eminem certainly took Mariah Carey’s song as an insult and didn’t react very kindly toward it, but Mariah and her husband are still denying it. No one really knows the truth of the song “Obsessed”, besides MC, whether it was really just a song about no one, or a song about the obsessed Slim Shady, but it is their own personal business and has caused enough public display and drama in the music industry.

Wow, I knew that man in her music video looked familiar! Eminem’s song is so mean! But the “Obsessed” music video is kinda embarassing for Eminem

Hmm Eminem aka Marshall Bruce Mathers III. Of Late I’ve become a big fan and can not get too much gossip or postings about his life history. Have to admit that the quotation regarding Eminem caught my eye as I have not called previously. As his dad left the family unit when he was an infant the media age has been chance for large earnings and mass media exposure which he has adopted well, fending off the downfall with way too much coverage and exposure experienced by different celebrities. Loved his previous releases Slim Shady, Marshall Mathers, The Eminem Show, although the messages sometimes are distressing. Puzzling overtones and not making for a blessed world.
