You all see them. Walking around, wearing those bulky out of date headphones, without a care in the world.
Many have asked questions – who are they? Why do they do this? What does everyone else think?
This article will answers these questions, and more.
Some people see the kids who wear headphones as escapists who wish to protect themselves from a harsh society, much like an ostrich buries its head under the sand. Senior Alex Salamati explained “I think… they are trying to hide from reality.”

Is this so? Or is it a ritualistic social custom, some sort of animalistic form of recognizing social orders, or is it just another trend with complete disregard for social norms, such as crocs?
There has been no indication that actual music ever comes out of these headphones. Indeed they are ofte not even connected to any sort of musical device, and moreover, if they had a practical application such as music, why would they not use the typical earbuds which are so popular nowadays?
Thus we only speculate. Some believe that they serve as a earmuff type device, to keep the head and ears warm. Others say that they are merely trying to fit in with their peers. Still others more speculate that the headphones serve as a way to avoid social engagements.

Can't talk, wearing headphones
One anonymous source speculated that “They don’t want to talk to people… basically, they don’t want to socially engage,or even make an effort.”
However, teacher Christine Sandoval said that “they just want some peace and quiet.”
Who doesn’t seek that from time to time?
There are many theories that have been postulated as to why students of CDM wear headphones. Regardless of whether it is a social statement, or a clever adaption the important thing to remember is that, like any other apparel trend, it will merely be merely dust against the wind of societal whimsy in the long run.

There are social situations in which headphones can be deemed appropriate, or even preferable. One such instance would be on an airplane. Though even then, they are merely trying to hide from the annoying guy in the center seat or the inevitable crying baby.

Or maybe they are the only ones that know the truth?
