Battle of the Bay-tennis style. The Sea Queens tennis played numerous matches in which they beat their opposing team. Varsity and junior varsity played our rival, Newport Harbor, and frosh/soph played Dana Hills. On Thursday, the girls varsity and junior varsity team succeeded in beating Harbor in the “Battle of the Bay.”
Varsity beat Harbor, the home team. It was a rare occasion where they got to play all of the 17 girls on the team.
“Our win against Harbor was very solid, we got to play all 17 girls on the Varsity team which is very rare,” said Coach Patterson. “And although we hadn’t played them recently we felt very confident before the game,” said Patterson.
Kelli Feeley and Azadaeh Nazemi came in second place doubles for two sets while Betsey Murray and Hailey Hogan won the doubles match. Sami Rekoon came in the lead for the singles match and Katelyn Nguyen played exceptionally well at the match.
The girls junior varsity team also had a very solid win against Harbor. With scores such as 6-0, 6-3, and 6-2, the girls’ team is definitely off to a great start.
“I was a little nervous before the game. Although my match was difficult we did really well,” said freshman, Maddie Hayward who beat the opposing team 6-3 with her partner, freshman Olivia Dajee.
The frosh/soph team played Dana Hills Friday, the number one ranked team in the county.
“I feel really confident and excited to play Dana Hills,” said freshman Melis Gunay before the match.
Once Dana Hills arrived the players greeted their opposing partners and played their matches. Frosh/soph successfully beat Dana Hills in their third match of the season. Sophia Chen came in the lead for singles and Sophia Reynolds and Elise Sadler were in the lead for the doubles match.
